Welcome to my website! My name is Luis Cásedas, I am a Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Fellow at the Cognition, Attention and Learning Lab (Autonomous University of Madrid) led by Prof. Miguel A. Vadillo. Using experimental and meta-analytic approaches, my current research aims to elucidate whether, under what conditions, and to what extent mindfulness meditation and related contemplative practices improve cognitive functioning, as well as the neurocognitive and affective mechanisms underlying this effect.

I completed my PhD in 2022 at the Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (University of Granada) under the supervision of Prof. Juan Lupiáñez. A few weeks before defending my thesis, I received the Early Career Scientist Award 2022 from the American Mindfulness Research Association. In 2021, I enjoyed a short stay with Prof. Jonathan W. Schooler at the META lab (University of California Santa Barbara) which sparked the development of an integrative theoretical framework for the cognitive effects of mindfulness practice (now out in Nature Reviews Psychology). Prior to my PhD, I completed an MSc in Neuroscience and Cognition at Utrecht University, a period during which I also enjoyed a research stay at the Oxford Center for Emotions and Affective Neuroscience (University of Oxford) led by Prof. Elaine Fox. I pursued my undergraduate studies in Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid.

My publications and outreach projects can be found under the Main tab. The INMINDS tab is home to the Insights in Mind Sciences interview series, an initiative I recently launched where I will be speaking regularly with scientists from a variety of backgrounds on topics relevant to our understanding of the mind. I am also on ResearchGate, X, and Bluesky. You can contact me at luis.casedas (at) gmail (dot) com or using this form.
